Ophthalmology

It is important that any eye problems in horses are rapidly diagnosed and treated if permanent damage to the eye and eyesight is to be avoided. For this reason we recommend prompt veterinary assessment for even apparently minor eye problems.

We are experienced in treating eye conditions such as:

  • Cataract (in the early phase)
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Equine Recurrent Uveitis
  • Glaucoma
  • Injuries to the eyeball (such as corneal ulcers)
  • Injuries to the eyelid and surrounding tissue

In addition, we provide ocular surgery for conditions including lid lacerations, deep corneal ulcers or perforations, periocular tumours, etc.

There are also a host of other diseases that can cause a swollen, closed or ocular discharge. These need to be addressed quickly to avoid permanent damage.

Please call as soon as you notice a problem, the eye is not something to try to doctor yourself.

Speed is the key to success.
